“When I was a little girl I used to read fairy tales. In fairy tales you meet Prince Charming, and he’s everything you ever wanted. In fairy tales the bad guy is very easy to spot. The bad guy is always wearing a black cape so you always know who he is. Then you grow up, and you realize that Prince Charming is not as easy to find as you thought. You realize the bad guy is not wearing a black cape, and he’s not easy to spot. He’s really funny, and he makes you laugh, and he has perfect hair.” Taylor Swift
Our “Fairy Tale”
This is why I love you …
Because you smile when I watch you watching me watching you. Because you need and love and invite me to dance. Because you kiss me under the full moon and tell me you can see it’s light reflected in my eyes. Because you are always here to gather me up in joy and in sorrow. Because you want to hold me, touch me, love me every chance you get. Because you let me kiss your sad, wise eyes until you feel your joy return. Because your kisses linger in my mouth long after our kiss ends. Because we fall asleep with your fingers curled in mine. Because you whisper “sweet everythings” in my ear as we waken to the dawn. Because you respect that I have chosen you from deep inside the hidden places of my heart. Because you treasure and protect my love for what it is…the most precious gift I will ever give anyone.
Chapter 2
Our fairy tale rewritten: “Once upon a time my prince woke me with his kiss. Once awakened. Once I believed. Once I trusted…it was then that you turned away. From me. From your promises. From our “Happily Ever After.” I wept. My heart broke. I watched you turn and leave. I could not believe you could just leave.
Chapter 3
For so long after, it all still seemed so real. Too real, that I could only believe that eventually you would return. Then, reality softened to “It was all merely a dream, an impossible dream. A dream dreamt by two romantic fools who happened to find joy in the other’s eyes ~ not for forever, but for a while.”
Chapter 4
But, no…I know better now. Thanks to you, I’ve hidden away my little girl trust in fairy tales coming true. Thanks to you, I’ve found the woman within. And, thanks to you, my WISDOM will never allow me, again, to trust “I love you” when spoken too soon. Never again. For sometimes a prince turns out to be, not a man, but a little boy who knows nothing of love.
YOU are Worthy. Blessed be.
